2 cups dried beans — (mixed) washed & picked over
2 quarts water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 16 oz can tomatoes
1 large onion — chopped
1 clove garlic — minced
1 chili pepper — chopped OR 1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 drops liquid smoke flavoring — (or to taste)

Combine all ingredients except liquid smoke in slow cooker. Cover. Cook on low for 8 hours. Turn to high and cook an additional 2 hours or until beans are tender. Stir in liquid smoke flavoring.
