I couldn’t find chili sauce so used Newman’s Own Medium Pineapple Salsa. Because I’m feeding finicky granddaughters, I only used 1 Tbsp chili powder and also added (not substituted) 1/2 cup bulgur. My husband thought it was fine but the girls complained it was too spicy. I am not fond of spicy either but found it was just fine. In the end, I was the only one who ate the leftovers, which is fine because there is so little I can eat on my heavily restricted diet. Made it again last night and substituted cumin for the chili powder. Tasted it this morning and I can’t wait to have it for lunch! Thank you for this versatile fat free recipe!

You can also use rice or sometimes I use chunks of sweet potato, too. The chili sauce isn’t hot. The heat would come from the amount of chili powder or other spices that you are using. Hope that helps. ENJOY!

Also, 12 oz of chili sauce sounds really spicy? What chili sauce did you use?—- I can’t wait to make this recipe!

Many, including Boca Burgers, do. Unfortunately.

This recipe as written was too sweet for us. I would reduce the amount of pumpkin pie spice by half. I used lentils and also added green pepper and a second can of beans.

If making it again, I would find a substitute for the chili sauce.
