I think that pumpkins are such a universal food that it can be just about anything you want it to be: soups, sides, main dinners, pies, desserts, smoothies. Possibilities are endless!

I remember when I was a teen the pumpkins used to get smashed all over the roads. I don’t think it happens much anymore.

Hi Roxanne, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. I agree they are so accommodating and versatile you can make just about anything with them. Since I live in a college town and neighborhood, alas, I do still see a few pumpkins smashed here and there. Mine was “protected” by Saint Pumpkin, I think!

Hi Maria,
I am loving your blog. “Another kind of Blue Cornflower Effect” just cracked me up. I have the Harvest ones from the 80’s, I think? I just love the feeling of Home that comes when I cook with them.

I think those pumpkin squares might be what we have for Thanksgiving. Thanks for the recipe and pictures.

Hi never give up!

Thank you!! I am laughing again to hear you cracked up at “Another kind of Blue Cornflower Effect”–that’s exactly what I was hoping for!! Ah, yes, the Harvest corning ware from the 80’s–I can see what you’re talking about in my mind’s eye. This one came to me from my Mom’s kitchen. I, too, love the feeling of Home that comes with cooking in them. I’ve heard from a willing “guinea pig” in my neighborhood that the pumpkin pie squares were “soooo good.” So cool you might try them out for Thanksgiving. Cathy says they have the most “likes” of any of her recipes so far!
