Dear Maria, Congratulations on winning the re-zoning of your dear little old blue house, the house we all feel we know well through your delightful, moving and encouraging posts – the busy kitchen bench, the cosy fireplace, your productive back garden (and source of much healing) and the front yard with its autumn leaves. Best wishes for the move into your new home, another welcoming house full of character – I can see you sitting on the veranda soaking in some soul-nourishing relaxing moments with Romeo (I have a daughter called Juliet who loves dogs!).

Sorry you haven’t heard from down-under for a while. It’s getting colder now, but today has been a stunning and uplifting wintry day and I can now see our mirror-like harbour reflecting beautiful pink tinges of the evening sky. I still regularly read and enjoy your columns, so please continue! Take care and all the best for taking that next step into your future!

Thanks Veronica!–I think getting the fees back is a long shot, but it’s really nice this guy thought I should get a refund. Thanks for the good wishes. You made me laugh out loud about the shopping cart–alas, I think it’s docked (maybe at the landfill?) for good. . .which is probably better for my overall stamina in the long run. . LOL xo

I wrote this Councilman a thank you and told him whatever the outcome, his effort was the true gift. Whoohooo! Congratulations!!! What beautiful parting gift to this incredible house!! It’s obviously a tough cookie, since it has been standing for a long time and through thick and thin. Not surprisingly, it’s been the place for healing. The house had wisdom in its bones. But you’re on your way now and don’t need it anymore. Your new house will bring you something new, fitting to your growing health.
As for the bonus, the costs you might get back… you know, we have a saying in Dutch: wie goed doet, goed ontmoet. Translated it’s something like: who good deed does, good deed meets.
You deserve it, and maybe the man at the council deserves to get this for you. He probably felt a lot happier already, simply by trying. That’s what helping someone does. 🙂
Congratulations again. I’m happy for you and happy for the house. and have a “good move” with as little stress as possible (if such a thing exists) 🙂
