Maria, what a beautiful meditation on faith this is. So important for me to read right now, and I’m glad that I came to the post at exactly the right moment. Thank you for the encouragement to keep spirit alive and going. I’ll find a way to light a candle of my own today.

You’re welcome, Veronica–I so appreciate you writing that so many more than myself have felt and are feeling this way in the wake of the election. We MUST remind ourselves to find heart–as far as I’m concerned it’s the only way through and out, however long it make take. I agree with you that so many more people are waking up and what needs to be healed and transformed is showing itself in comprehensive ways that make it all impossible to ignore. In the big picture, that’s a good, if heartbreaking, thing. Thank you always for your kind and insightful comments. xoxo

Thank you, Maria, for capturing so well what many of us felt (and have been feeling since) that day a year ago. I find it very difficult at times to find my heart, and this was a lovely reminder that it’s still there. This past election gave me a glimmer of hope again, that maybe all this was for a reason – to inspire and spur us all into action, out of whatever lethargic funk we’ve been in, and to make the change we want to see happen. I’m glad you got to have your Mother Mary in the garden to visit with whenever you need. xo

Thank you for this beautiful comment, Olwyn. I love thinking about your small Zen temples in the garden. I have a statue of Buddha under one of my trees. The creed: “I believe in the Creator, Mother-Father God, in Jesus my brother, and in the Holy Spirit who is present in me now. I believe in a world that’s good for all people, animals, and plants and the whole planet to live in.I believe in equal rights for all people, in love, justice, friendship and peace. I must continually act out these beliefs. I will do so because of my belief in Jesus, bu I make no claim to exclusivity and will work with others for a better world. I believe in the community of the faithful, the communion of the saints in all religions, and in our task to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. All this in humility, carrying my cross every day. I believe in the resurrection.”
